Library Resources Centre

The library is a bright, modern, well-equipped workplace that is popular with both staff and students. Staff endeavour to create a supportive environment which equips students with the necessary skills to locate, appraise and extract relevant information from a wide variety of resources. Resources are accessed through a computerised Library Management System, which is managed proficiently by our student librarians.

Reading for pleasure is actively promoted through Library lessons, reading groups, quizzes and literary lunches. The Library Reading Group meets weekly and has for many years successfully “shadowed “the nominations for the Carnegie and weRead awards. These activities have enabled our students to interact with today’s top writers for young people, including; Meg Rosoff, Marcus Sedgwick ,Dan Freedman and Sharon Dogar, and has ultimately  allowed our students the opportunity to engage in lively debate with other secondary schools throughout the country.

Each year we enter a team for the Barnet Librarians KidsLit Quiz and have been the proud winners for the past two years.

Various literary and cultural activities are organised throughout the year to reflect the diversity of our students. Displays of dancing, storytelling and poetry are featured during Black History Month and One World Week.

Our student Librarians run a Young Co-operative, marketing and selling fair trade items to fellow students, staff and to the wider community.
