Media Studies

AS Level

Media Studies is about analysing the world of media that we are surrounded by.  It requires students to think critically and analytically about media products such as websites, film, television, advertising, print media, podcasts and radio. The course is split into two sections (MEST1 and MEST2).

At A2 level students build on the key concepts that they have engaged with in their first year of study, the use of media language, ideologies, genre, institution, audience and representation of people and places.  There is a stronger emphasis on independent study and students are given the opportunity to pursue their own area of interest within the media world.  The course is again split into two sections- MEST3: Analysing representation and the use of new digital media.  MEST4: Coursework- a Critical Research Report and a linked production piece.
