Carnegie 2018

Each year a group of St James’ students take part in the Carnegie Shadowing programme where children and young people 'shadow' the judging process for the CILIP Carnegie Award; they read, discuss and review the books on a shortlist selected by CILIP's panel of Librarian judges and engage in a reading related activity online.

Young people taking part are known as 'Shadowers'. The scheme has thousands of registered reading groups across the UK and internationally - engaging tens of thousands of children and young people in reading.

The activity takes place from March to June; from the moment the shortlists are revealed to the final winner’s announcement. The shadowing process is supported online, and our reviews can be found at: www.carnegiegreenaway.org. St James Book Bugs.

This June we joined fellow Barnet Schools’ Shadowers in a Carnegie celebration, where books were discussed and group presentations, were delivered. This year we delivered a presentation on Anthony McGowan's ROOK

This year’s guest speaker, the author Patrice Lawrence, spoke passionately about her first novel Orange Boy.
