Liturgical Life of the School

As a Catholic school, we are a worshipping community. In planning liturgical experiences for our students, we recognise that liturgy is primarily intended for those who wish to celebrate and participate freely in the life of the Church. At the same time, we acknowledge that younger students often require guidance, encouragement, and opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of prayer and worship as they grow in faith.

This commitment reflects our Dominican Pillar of Prayer, which encourages every member of our community to cultivate a personal relationship with God through prayer, reflection, and active participation in the liturgical life of the Church.

Celebration of the Word Assembly

Our weekly Celebration of the Word assemblies provide an opportunity for our school community to gather as a House in prayer, reflect on the Sunday Gospel, and consider how God's Word calls us to live in our daily lives. Each Celebration of the Word focuses on one of our VERITAS values, encouraging students to put their faith into action through their words, actions and prayer. Where appropriate, these themes are enriched through links to Catholic Social Teaching, helping students to recognise their responsibility to uphold the dignity of every person, work for the common good, and serve those most in need.

Students play an active role in planning and leading these celebrations, particularly through writing and reading the Bidding Prayers, enabling them to develop confidence in leading worship and reflecting on the needs of others. This shared experience embodies the Dominican Pillars of Prayer, as we gather to encounter God through Scripture and worship; Study, as we deepen our understanding of the Gospel and Catholic teaching; Community, as we come together in faith and support one another; and Service, as we are inspired to live out the Gospel through compassionate action and a commitment to justice.

Masses

The Church's festivals are celebrated in school, and all these acts of worship are central to the life of the school. Students will experience a number of events including, Advent Service at the end of the Autumn Term, a Lenten/Easter Service at the end of the Spring Term, and an End of Year Mass, at the end of the Summer Term, as well as Mass on  Holy Day of Obligations. There is also a voluntary Mass celebrated in our chapel on the first Friday of the month at lunchtime.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

We aim to offer the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation to all during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Students have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament during break and lunchtime. Priests from local parishes support us in this initiative.

Confirmation

If your child is preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please let us know, by emailing admin for the attention of Mrs. Marsh, the date and parish where the Confirmation will be celebrated so that we can keep your child in our prayers during this important stage of their faith journey. Where possible, members of our school community would also be pleased to attend the Confirmation Mass to celebrate this special occasion alongside your family.

This reflects our Dominican Pillars of Prayer and Community, reminding us that we grow in faith by praying for one another, celebrating together, and supporting each other as members of the Body of Christ.
